Broadcaster and former international gymnast Gabby Logan is one of the UK’s most respected and recognisable sports presenters, known for fronting major events from the Olympics to the World Cup. With a career spanning decades, she has become a familiar, trusted voice on our screens. Now in her fifties, she is also a powerful role model for midlife women, championing strength, confidence and healthy ageing. Open about her own fitness journey, she proves that staying active can be both achievable and enjoyable at any stage of life.
Q Have you adapted your approach to nutrition and fitness since moving into your fifties?
Gabby: Absolutely. As I’ve moved into midlife, I’ve become much more focused on strength and functional fitness. Strength training helps to maintain muscle, bone health and vitality, and has supported me during the menopause both physically and mentally. I wanted to be open because I know how powerful it is to hear someone say, “I’ve been there too.” I think it’s time we normalised talking about menopause. For too long, it’s been something women felt they had to go through quietly.
Q Last year, you teamed up with menopause strength training expert, Annie Murray, to launch the Menopace Strength Test. Tell us about this.
Gabby: It’s a great tool to show what women should be aiming for when it comes to maintaining muscle, bone health and vitality. The nine exercises it evaluates cover key areas of physical health including grip, strength, endurance, stability and aerobic fitness in different body areas. They’re designed to be accessible whether you’re at home or in the gym and can easily slot into day-to-day life. They’ve easily slotted into my day-to-day life and are an easy way to make sure I’m staying on top of my fitness. Movement, especially strength training, can be transformative.
Q How do you ensure that you keep fit and healthy when you’re travelling for work and have a busy schedule?
Gabby: When I’m travelling, I focus on keeping things simple and consistent. I try to move every day, even if it’s just a walk or a short workout in my hotel room, and I prioritise staying hydrated and eating balanced meals where I can. I also prioritise sleep, because nothing restores energy quite like proper rest. It’s not about being perfect, but about making small choices that help me feel my best, even on a busy schedule.
Q What do you tend to eat during a typical day?
Gabby: Breakfast is usually something wholesome like overnight oats topped with seeds, berries and a spoonful of peanut butter. I also love a protein-rich start with salmon, eggs and green vegetables when I have a bit more time. Lunch tends to be quick and simple, especially when I’m on the move. I often go for grilled chicken with a fresh salad or fish paired with steamed greens, which is easy to prepare and satisfying. Dinner is where I really focus on getting in plenty of protein. Some of my go-to meals include turkey bolognese served over lentils, or chicken breasts in a hearty bean broth. These are staples in our household and always hit the spot.
Q What supplements do you take?
Gabby: I take Menopace Max every day to support my health. The great thing about it is how it supports health across multiple areas, with nutrients like calcium for normal bone health, magnesium to help normal muscle function, vitamin B6 for normal hormone regulation and thiamin for normal heart function. It also provides soya isoflavones plus red clover extracts.
Q Can you offer any tips for sticking to a fitness programme and healthy diet when life is busy?
Gabby: When life gets busy, I think it’s about keeping things simple and realistic. Even 20 minutes of movement or a quick, balanced meal can make a real difference. Sticking to a routine you know is realistic, such as strength training, can help you to stay healthy, and having a few easy, healthy meals batch-cooked and in the freezer ready for when you need them, takes the pressure off. Most importantly, don’t beat yourself up. Motivation will dip at times, but small, consistent actions really do add up.
